I’m Malcolm Peralty
I was born in Ontario, Canada but spent a large portion of my childhood on the Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte) Islands in British Columbia because I’m a military brat. I am currently back in Kingston, Ontario working from home.
Growing up, my parents both worked and so eating healthy wasn’t always the focus. Nutritional education wasn’t really talked about at home. My father could live on coffee and cigarettes and my mom tried to stretch the few dollars we had so that we had something in our bellies. There were times where the budget was so tight that dinner was the fun surprise of unboxing a military ration pack and eating that. They really did the best they could.
As an early adult with my own job, I spent a ton on food and still do. I ate for convenience. I ate for taste. I didn’t eat for nutrition. My weight peaked at around 310 pounds (140 kg). I knew I had to do something to change it, but I was sad, depressed, and tired. On an emotional upswing, I managed to get under 300 and have been hovering there ever since. It isn’t a healthy weight. I need to get healthy.

“Losing weight is hard. Being fat is hard. Pick your hard.”
I am not going to lie and say that I know everything about fitness, mental health or health in general. This is an exploration for me. I want to document my journey so far and continuing things that I learn.
This site is really for me to improve my knowledge, focus my passion.
If it helps someone else, that’s a bonus, but don’t take anything I say as gospel, I’m just a computer geek learning about fitness.
